Aevi Capture Support

Aevi Capture creates USDZ models on a supported iPhone or iPad using Apple's guided Object Capture and on-device reconstruction.

Device requirements

LiDAR alone does not guarantee support. In particular, iPad Pro models from 2020 have LiDAR but do not support Aevi Capture's complete guided-capture and on-device-reconstruction workflow. Aevi checks both required capabilities before opening the camera and explains which capability is unavailable.

Starting a scan

  1. Keep the rear cameras and LiDAR clean and unobstructed.
  2. Place the object on a stable, well-lit surface with space to walk around it.
  3. In the Library, choose New Scan, review the preparation guidance, and choose Start Capture.
  4. Move slowly until camera tracking is ready, then choose Find object.
  5. Complete the guided pass. Add another angle or an underside pass when useful, then choose Finish & Build 3D.

Capture and reconstruction happen on the device. A successful build is saved to the Library before its temporary source photos are removed.

If Find object is unavailable

Move the device slowly and point the camera at the surface beneath the object. Improve the lighting, avoid reflective or featureless backgrounds, and wait for camera tracking to recover. Aevi enables Find object when tracking is ready and shows guidance if Apple Object Capture cannot detect a suitable surface.

Interrupted captures

An interrupted scan can appear in the Library as a recovery item for up to seven days. Open it to continue or build when possible, or delete its stored photos. A scan started inside a collection keeps that collection as its destination after recovery.

Build or storage problems

Aevi checks for at least 2 GB of available storage before a new scan. Before Build, it uses the larger of 2 GB or four times the size of the source photos as a conservative minimum. If the check reports too little space, free storage and try again. Keep the app in the foreground while the model is building. If the device still runs out of space or a build fails for another reason, Aevi keeps recoverable source photos when possible and shows the available recovery action. Do not remove the app while a recovery item is needed.

Reflective, transparent, deformable, very thin, or nearly featureless objects are difficult photogrammetry subjects and may produce incomplete results even when capture finishes.

Finding a newly built model

After a successful build, Aevi returns to the Library, briefly shows New scan saved, and promotes the new model even if another sort order was selected. Search and selection are cleared so the result is visible. The saved sort preference itself is preserved.

Previewing and sharing

Use the cube action or Open in AR to open Apple's Quick Look viewer. Quick Look may begin in AR mode; use the viewer's own control to switch modes when available. Choose Share to export a USDZ file through Apple's system Share Sheet.

Deleting local data

Delete an interrupted capture from its recovery card. Delete a completed model from the Library to remove its USDZ file, thumbnail, and collection memberships. Deleting a collection does not delete its models. Removing the app deletes its local container from the device, subject to any Apple backup retained under the user's backup settings.
